Squirrel Scribble Vol.3 – Get your motor running!
With the realisation that the chance of an overseas trip is melting faster than a soft serve cone on a stinking hot summer’s day, desperation for an escape away has hit fever pitch.

Once l accepted that international destinations are completely off the cards for the foreseeable future, it was time to whip out the Janome…l mean laptop and plan a local staycation (I hate that word btw).
Due to my utter refusal to stick an A4 piece of paper to my windscreen for interstate travel, it was time to research a Queensland break within a distance l was willing to drive.
The threshold is set at three hours due to ‘in-car passengers’ otherwise an incident could occur that would make the regional local news. No one needs to report on that.
My hatred for heat, sun, surf, and sand is well documented…hey, l am almost an albino! While l do love the Gold Coast, any temperature above 25 degrees makes a part of my body twitch which is best not discussed.
All that aside, we are heading to the country for a winter experience – yes please!
I have never explored Warwick or Stanthorpe, so it is time to pack the esky, the winter coats, the husband and friends and head in a westerly direction to explore the internal areas of our State (plus I hear they share my love of wine out there)!
Being a lover of swish hotels, until this trip I have flatly refused to succumb to staying in an AirBB property. Perhaps it was the allure of an open fire at someone’s home that convinced me to give it a try? Nope, there are simply no five-star hotels available…or built.
The ‘new era’ of travel for the Squirrel is about to commence this weekend. I look forward to sharing my experiences once l return from inland Queensland.
One thing is for certain, local cafes, restaurants, stores and bottle shops are about to get a big economic boost with the impending arrival of myself, husband and six friends.
We are about to descend on a road trip that is certain to have more highs and lows than the shitty 2020 rollercoaster we are all forcibly riding. Strap on your sanitised harness and get ready for a ride! Stay tuned.
Kindly, Squirrel x
