The Gold Coast’s hip new pizza-slinging, cocktail-shaking, pasta-twirling dining spot that’s set to add a splash of fun and cheese-fuelled good times to classic Italian dining is now open!

Located inside Southport Sharks on Olsen Avenue Mozza Mozza opened on Saturday 26^th November. The stylish Italian kitchen and bar takes over the premises formerly occupied by Carmody’s Restaurant, surprising diners with everything from tableside cheese wheels and tiramisu to wood-fired mozza(rella) pizzas, fried mortadella sandos, negroni slushies and a side serve of disco tunes.   Renowned Hospitality identity, Dave Galvin of CRAFTY’S Sports Bar fame, secured the location in mid-2021. 

With a majestic four-metre-tall olive tree as the centrepiece, the 160-seat MOZZA will offer a warm, convivial, family-friendly atmosphere across long lunches (Friday to Sunday) and dinners (Wednesday to Sunday), slinging classic Italian dishes that are sure to leave locals scraping their plates for every last bit.   

Mitch Chesterton has just been secured as the head chef of MOZZA MOZZA. Born and bred on the Gold Coast, Mitch has worked in multiple hatted restaurants including Alchemy, Michaels on Tedder Ave and Peak Dining at Iceworks in Paddington.  He was also the Chef/Owner of the award-winning Iku in Burleigh for three years and won a Chef Hat Award and spend years in his early days travelling from the top to the bottom of Italy, sampling all the regions cuisine.

The 48-hour fermented pizzas straight from the woodfired oven are a delicious drawcard on the MOZZA menu, with diners choosing from topping combinations like Italian salame, peperoncino chilli and parmesan, a wild mushroom ragu, black truffle paste, mozzarella and thyme, as well as the white-based potato pizza with green olives, pancetta, ricotta and the restaurant’s namesake mozzarella. 

Italian pastas bring some theatre to the MOZZA experience with the Cacio e Pepe served tableside from a wheel of pecorino cheese, while the soon to famous crab spaghetti will be releasing aromas of blue swimmer crab, tomato sugo, garlic, chilli and brandy.

Diners can pull apart house-made focaccia or the Mozza puff pizza bread to start and share their way through Italian favourites like Nonna’s meatballs and the moreish Fried Mortadella Sando on fluffy white bread. Plates of cured meats like salame, prosciutto and mortadella are also sliced to order. 

Say “cin cin” to Mozza Mozza’s collection of cracking Italian cocktails and spritzes, as well as coconut margaritas and negroni slushies – perfect for summer sipping! The talented bar team has also perfected its house-made ‘cellos’, with lemon-cello, mandarin-cello and orange-cello available by the nip.

The MOZZA bar features a selection of Australian and Italian wines and bottled beers, while MOZZA MOZZA’s own Lager will be pouring on tap.

Mr Galvin says MOZZA is a fun new local for northern Gold Coasters, created to offer share-style Italian food for families and groups in “true MOZZA MOZZA style”.

“It’s all about classic, family-style dishes served with a little bit of theatre,” he said.
