Step 1: Don your best resort wear
Firstly, you need to feel the part. Whip-out that little summer dress, Hawaiian shirt, bikini or bathrobe and prepare to set sail into…your kitchen.
Step 2: Resort breakfast
All good vacations start with a sumptuous resort breakfast. Our favourites include fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and eggs on toast paired with a hot cup of coffee. (Obviously these are times of either stockpiles or rations – either way, appreciate what you have and turn breakfast into a civilised moment). Set the table nicely or jump back in bed and enjoy a little breakfast moment.
Step 3: Activity Time
How do you like to spend your holidays? Basking in the sunshine, reading a book, sightseeing (thanks to YouTube), stretching it out with some yoga, getting active with a fitness class, attending a cooking class, unwinding with a spa treatment – all DIY of course. Like on holiday, allocate units of time to each of the activities you’d like to do that day.
Step 4: International Themed Dinner
Oh now this is fun! Who’s up for a Mexican feast? Nachos, Quesadillas and Margaritas anyone? Perhaps a little home-made Italian (God knows you have enough pasta) or a spot of Indian? Your plate is your passport. Get in the kitchen, turn up the themed music, pop on some International screensavers and teleport to your favourite destination.
Step 5: Late Night Living Room Disco
There’s a bunch of local musicians offering live streamed gigs straight to your living room. Alternatively, crank your favourite tunes and get dancing, singing and laughing. Better still, video call your mates to join the party.
To make your holiday at home really EXTRA, try giving yourself a turndown service (you know, when Housekeeping leave little chocolates on your pillow) or deliver yourself a welcome gift, like a bottle of bubbles on ice (surprise, surprise – what do we have here?!). To really go the extra mile, fold your toilet paper ends into little triangles – your flatmate will LOVE that.
Happy home holidays!
