The Oasis Celebrates over 40 years Supporting Kurrawa Surf Club’s Nippers Program

The Oasis is proud to celebrate more than four decades of supporting the iconic Nippers program at Kurrawa Surf Club, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to the local community and surf lifesaving on the Gold Coast.

This year’s Nippers season has officially kicked off at Kurrawa Surf Club, welcoming hundreds of local children aged 5 to 14 to the beach for a season of surf safety, fitness, and fun.

The Oasis has been a dedicated sponsor of Kurrawa Surf Club’s Nippers since the 1980s, playing a vital role in helping nurture the next generation of surf lifesavers.

Kurrawa Surf Club has a proud history of junior development, having been named the South Coast Branch 2024/25 Junior and Youth Development Club of the Year. The Nippers program at Kurrawa was first introduced in the 1960s and became a regular fixture in the 1970s. Today, more than 90% of Kurrawa’s Junior Age Managers are former Nippers themselves, a testament to the club’s strong culture of mentorship and community spirit.

Nippers is one of the most important junior activities in Australia, teaching children surf awareness, safety, and practical skills such as wading, running, swimming, board paddling, lifesaving techniques, and first aid. Beyond skills, it fosters lifelong friendships and a love of the ocean.

The partnership between The Oasis and Kurrawa Surf Club continues to showcase the power of community collaboration, ensuring generations of Gold Coast children can grow up with the skills and confidence to enjoy the beach safely.
