Carlotta: Queen Of The Cross

Rounding out the colourful kaleidoscope of entertainment under the Spiegeltent Gold Coast is showbiz icon and living legend, Carlotta. The inspiration for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is set to perform her latest theatrical instalment, Carlotta: Queen Of The Cross, together with Helpmann Award winner Michael Griffiths on Sunday 12th May.

Carlotta began her career as an original member of the long-running Les Girls cabaret show in 1963 in the purpose built Les Girls building which stood on a prominent corner in the heart of Sydney’s Kings Cross, New South Wales. Carlotta, a transgender person, rose through the ranks of the show to eventually become the show’s compere and its most famous member; becoming a must-see attraction for visitors to Sydney. The famous Les Girls show and Carlotta went on-the-road, touring Australia from 1993, which inspired the film Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Carlotta: Queen Of The Cross promises to be an outrageously funny and brutally honest journey of songs and stories from 50 years on and off the stage, including classic renditions of the classics by Berlin, Rogers & Hart, Sondheim and her dear friend, Peter Allen.
