“A party, without cake, is just a meeting”
– Julia Child
Isn’t that the truth! Thankfully there’s a cake at every momentous occasion to bring us those treasured moments – where everyone is gathered together singing, toasting or clapping as the cake is cut. It’s not only a charming and lovely tradition but it is also a hero photo moment that graces every photo album (or social media post) and a memory that lives on and on for all those sharing the occasion.
Remember the days when the Women’s Weekly Cookbook was the epitome of homemade chic cakes? Well these days the stress, anxiety and frustration of attempting a show-stopping masterpiece by yourself is long gone. Rather than using our hands to measure and mix ingredients, we simply use them to scroll through Pinterest for inspiration and then to find the best cake making professionals in town to take the brief.
At gcVIP, special events are our business so we thought we’d let you in on who WE use to supply the most enviable pièce de résistance cakes for all our personal and business events – weddings, corporate functions, birthdays, engagements, launch events and sometimes just because it’s Monday and a cake feels right with that double shot espresso.
Drumroll please……. it’s Madison’s Café in Broadbeach!
Madison’s Café is the warm and welcoming sweetheart of the vibrant Oasis Shopping Centre, situated right at a main entrance in the Broadbeach Mall. In a town of new openings, it’s the classics like Madison’s that remind us that good business never goes out of style. They open their doors at 5:30 every morning for the locals who need their coffee fix and stay open till late so everyone can share in their ever-popular menu – but it’s the decadent cake and pastry cabinet that we dare you to walk past.
Madison’s Café have created literally thousands of the most instagramable and beautiful (inside and out!) wedding, birthday and special occasion cakes. Very recently, they even produced a stunning white chocolate and gold croquembouche masterpiece for The Great Gaysby Wedding.
We chatted to Lincoln from Madison’s about their incredible special occasion cakes including 2019’s most popular trends and his predictions for what you’ll be dreaming of in 2020.
Q1: Lincoln, can you start by telling us what sort of cakes you make at Madison’s?
A: We make any cake your heart desires. There is nothing too small and nothing too big. Most people send us an image from Google and say “THIS IS WHAT I WANT”, this is how many we need to cater for and we do so accordingly.
Q2: You must have had some wild cake requests over the years? Is there any that stand out?
A: We have been asked to make a cake that looks like a baby for a gender reveal with pink sponge. The cake looked so real it was hard for a parent to cut!
Q3: Can you share with us this year’s most requested cake styles?
A: The most requested cake in 2019 is the nude style with fresh flowers and also children’s themed birthday cakes. We have seen more unicorn rainbow cakes than simple mud cakes this year.
Q4. It must be very rewarding to see the reactions of your customers when they collect their dream cake creations. How does it make you feel being able to bring such joy and precious memories to so many occasions?
A: It is our honour to make our customers their dream cakes, the photos with the smiling faces and cakes will last forever and also filter through and make the hard work worthwhile.
Q5. Can you share with us some of the trends you’re predicting for 2020?
A: I think it’s too early to tell – cake trends are evolving all the time. Trends seems to be so influenced by social media – I guess just keep your eyes peeled.
In saying that, I’m guessing number/letter cookie cakes will continue to be popular and there will be more demand for marble/crystal-look cakes and different geometric shaped cakes.
I’ve seen some amazing neon coloured cakes which would be great for kids parties and I predict the whole natural/dried flower trend will filter onto cakes also as they are into event styling at the moment.
Q6: Transporting a 2 or 3 tier cake could potentially be a nightmare – what are the best options to factor in about delivery?
A: We find it easier to transport big cakes as to whole single cakes and assemble them on site to prevent disaster from happening.
Q7: And finally, can you tell us about timeframes? We know we need to plan early but just how much notice is adequately required?
A: Timeframe depends on the size of the dream. Icing figures need at least a week to settle, most designer cakes we can create in less than a week, there are no boundaries for an individual cake – call us and we will make it happen .
And like a true best friend who always provides you a Plan B to get you out of trouble, Madison’s impressive display cabinet offers a decadent variety of cakes you can purchase on the spot and still be the hero of the party.
Next time you’re in Broadbeach, pop into Madison’s for a coffee and stay for some cake. We’ll no doubt see you there!
