HOTA’s biggest summer event – HOME – open until 15 December, offers a series of free and exciting outdoor events popping up throughout the precinct.
HOME runs from 1 to 15 December and includes Artisan Markets, the good vibes of Dancing on the Green and Live and Local, as well as a unique outdoor theatre experience by Barcelona Street Theatre company, and festival favourites – OSADÍA.
Visitors will be able to relive the love of Christmas with Samuel-Leighton Dore’s whimsical 2019 HOTA Christmas Commission and Christmas themed ArtLabs for the littlies; or experience the visual installations from the South Stradbroke Island Indigenous Artist Camp.
HOTA CEO, Criena Gehrke, said the precinct will come alive this summer with their jam-packed program of diverse events throughout the HOME series.
“HOTA’s HOME series is all about getting together with your friends, family and loved ones and celebrating summer,” she said.
“Make the most of the glorious weather and dance in the sunshine, shop at our boutique markets, check out the street theatre or just get together and kick off your Christmas celebrations early.”
You can expect provocative transformations of sophisticated make-up and hair art with international street theatre sensations, OSADÍA, as they pop up around the parklands and choose participants to dazzle with their innovative show.
This year, HOTA’s Christmas Commission celebrates the season, as Samuel LeightonDore decks the entrance to HOTA from top-to-toe in wrapping paper – available to check out throughout December. An established author, Samuel will create a new picture book, ‘Santa and the great Australian Road Trip’, available for purchase as a unique holiday gift. Kids will also have fun creating their own Christmas craft to wear and give with art designed by Samuel.
The biggest interactive dance event yet kicks off the HOME series, with Dancing on The Green held on the first Sunday of every month. Expect good vibes, fine tunes and the chance to dance with special guest, IMISS, teaching the best new moves in K-POP and K-Dizz.
Browse the curated stalls at HOME’s Artisan Market, then kick back to some live music with a drink from HOTA’s Lawn Bar while soaking up the summer sun.
HOTA will also host thirteen passionate artists who embarked on a five-day journey through Stradbroke Island alongside lead artist and mentor, Waayani artist Gordon Hookey, to present the 2019 South Stradbroke Island Indigenous Artist Camp Exhibition.
Featuring contemporary and traditional, ephemeral, site-specific installations that highlight the enriching experience from the camp artists.
HOTA’s HOME series features 20 exciting events and activities from December 1 to 15, spread all across the Home of the Arts, and will be returning again in 2020 – keep an eye out for a special announcement in January.
